In the late 1950’s, development began in the Four Hills area located in the Southeast quadrant of Albuquerque. In 1959, the Western Skies Motel was built and remained an Albuquerque landmark until its demolition in 1988. On December 7, 1962, President Kennedy stayed at the motel on his overnight visit to Sandia National Laboratories. The Four Hills Village Shopping Center now occupies the site. With the first home in 1957, the golf course in 1958, and its foothills location with large lots, and spectacular mountain and city views, Four Hills was quite the elite neighborhood.
