New Mexico Wind Energy

by Ashley Drake Gephart on August 12, 2007

Wind PowerPNM Sky Blue is the eighth-largest renewable energy program in the country for investor-owned utilities.  This program is already serving over 13,000 New Mexicans and you can easily make this change by calling PNM at 1-800-687-7854.

There are two ways to participate in this program:

  • You can purchase blocks of 100kWh for only $1.80 a block.
  • You can select to purchase up to 90% of your monthly usage at 1.8cents per kilowatt hour.

These are in addition to your regular rate. There are no long term commitments. It is easy to sign up and you can cancel anytime.

PNM Sky Blue subscribers purchased enough clean energy last year to have an environmental impact equal to taking 8,879 cars off the road for a year.

Visit PNM and view a slide show of the NM Wind Energy Center as well as Turbines under Construction at the NM Wind Energy Center

I would hope to see more wind farms in the future.

Karen - It is encouraging to see these changes taking place in NM. I hope to see more eco-friendly resources in the future.

Wind power is something parts of Oregon should seriously consider. We generate a lot of power from our rivers with Dams but… there are areas in Eastern Oregon that could be completely wind powered I would think. I love how you show other areas and what they are doing to be greener… we only have one planet

Thesa - I remember seeing one of the dams in OR when we spent a week there in 96. We are just one large village working together to keep our planet healthy.

Ashley - this is great news - I love learning about how other parts of the country are moving towards “sustainable” and “low impact” living - we don’t have the wind in Florida to harness it but kudos to ABQ for being a leader. Thanks for sharing the info.,

Cyndee - We get lots of wind in NM so it is good that we can put it to good use.

It is going to be interesting in the near term future to see how well alternative energy programs sustain with oil and gas having dropped. I truly hope that Obama can hold up to his promises and not steer away from a green future just because fossil fuels are temporarily priced low.
