Homebuying Safety Tip

Lock and Key Safety

door knobImagine closing on your new home and you’re given only one key, frustrated now that you need to get copies quickly made. Even if you were given a dozen keys, you still need to have all the locks, including storage sheds, gates, and mail boxes, changed immediately. You have no idea how many spare keys are floating around. The maid, nanny, babysitter, neighbor, handyman, etc. all may still have extra keys to your new home.

For your safety, I recommend either having a locksmith change the keys on your locks or replacing the locks completely yourself. I also suggest changing the code on the garage door opener. This is a simple process–just consult the manual for exact directions.

For locksmith service in Albuquerque, I recommend Bill’s Lock and Key, 4200 Wyoming #C NE Albuquerque, (505)293-6555, or 9311 Coors NW #P-11 Albuquerque, (505)899-0407.

Ashley, I always recommend to my buyers to get the locks changed. You never know how many other people had that house key in their possession in the past. Great tip for buyers.

Ashley, this is so important and yes, many people probably never think about it once they close. Any number of people could have a key.

Good advice!
