Previewing Homes and Neighborhoods

Still loving that last home you previewed? What about the neighborhood? When in the home-buying process, you have to consider the neighborhood as much as the home. After narrowing your choice down to two or three houses with offer time just around the corner, you need to drive through the neighborhoods several times. What are conditions like in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, including Friday and Saturday nights?

One home I had listed was very different depending on when I was in the neighborhood. During the week when everyone was at school, I rarely saw anyone around. On the weekends, however, the neighborhood was alive with children playing. If a neighborhood with lots of young children is important to you and you only saw a house there once during the week, you may have passed over a great neighborhood. On the other hand, if you wanted a quiet neighborhood, your first weekend in your dream home may be a shocker.

Remember, with a little more neighborhood reconnaissance, you can make a much more informed buying decision!

It really does surprise me that so many people will be sold on a house and not do enough research about the community that surrounds them. I hope I am wrong but I think a lot of people have lost their sense of community.

This is a good statement so many people only consider a house and not the surroundings. I also agree community does seem to be a little lost compared to what it used to be. SOme areas in Tucson like Rancho Sahuarita and some much older historic neighborhoods have it but by and large there’s little to be seen.
