A Few Words on Home Security
Home invasions are unfortunately a serious reality for people who own homes and have families. This is not to say that every homeowner will at some point experience a break-in. However, there are many people out there interested in robbing homes, and we all ought to be vigilant about preventing them from causing harm to our homes and families. One way to set about this prevention is to have an advanced home security system installed. Simply search something simple like “ADT California” or “home security in Texas” (relative to wherever you may live, of course), and you will encounter a number of attractive home security options that can help to make your family’s environment safer.
Home security companies such as ADT offer not only a wide range of features and products, but also a wide variety of packages that you can purchase for your home. This means that whether you would simply like an up-to-date house alarm installed, or you would rather have everything from updated door locks to laser trip wires and video cameras, your home security company ought to be able to accommodate your needs. The beauty of variety, in this case, is that you will essentially be able to customize your home security system to fit your own personal needs and desires. You will basically be picking from the following list of features, some of which have already been mentioned: front yard warning signs, motion detectors, trip wires, video cameras, house alarms, extra locks, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and, depending on your company, potentially even more.
In the meantime however, if you are researching home security companies or simply haven’t gotten around to installing an advanced system, the best defense against house crimes and accidents is common sense. Always remember the basics that your parents probably taught you as a child, and pass them on to your children as well – practices like never opening the door for strangers, making sure doors are locked at night, and leaving a light or two on to give the appearance that someone is home when you leave, are strong deterrents against home invasion.
Ultimately, it is of course entirely up to you what level of security you equip your home with. Common sense is helpful, and vigilance is necessary, but it is also vital to consider the potential benefits of an advanced home security system like the ones described above. You owe it to yourself, your property, and particularly your family to ensure that your home is as safe an environment as possible, at all times.
Playdough and Bubbles Drive
Several of the writers here at Expert Real Estate Talk are participating in Alta Mira NM’s March “Playdough and Bubbles” drive. Numerous locations have been set-up around Albuquerque as drop-off locations.
Here’s how you can help. Host a drive in your office, ask your bowling team to bring some to the next game, or give up one evening out and use the money for playdough!
“What a fun idea! At Supreme Lending, we are happy to participate in this year’s drive” – Patsy Bailey, Albuquerque Mortgage Banker
“We hope to collect plenty! Thank you for the services you provide the families of NM!” – High Desert Staffing
We hope you can participate in making this Alta Mira’s most successful drive ever!
Alta Mira NM is a non-profit that serves people of all ages with developmental risks, delays or disabilities throughout their lives. They use the playdough and bubbles in kits that are sent home with the families. They will be combined with other items and instruction cards so that families and parents can continue to work on therapeutic and learning activities outside of appointments with therapists and developmental specialists.

I was checking out a few of my clients’ websites and I noticed that this weekend there are 83 open houses in Albuquerque listed in the MLS! Nine have swimming pools and ten have three or more garage spaces. If you want space but still want to be in the city, one sits on an acre of land.

Albuquerque Chambers of Commerce
If you are a business owner or executive relocating to Albuquerque, you might be interested in joining a chamber of commerce. Albuquerque is home to two chambers.
The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GAAC) is a membership organization dedicated to meeting the identified needs of the Albuquerque metropolitan area by fostering economic opportunity and a favorable business climate within the region.
The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce (AHCNM) is a membership organization designed to promote economic development, education, workforce development, convention, and tourism with an emphasis on the Hispanic business person.
Both Chambers have numerous events for networking. GAAC hosts monthly “Business after Business” networking events at a local chamber member’s business. And the newest event is “Shakers and Stirrers,” a sophisticated social business networking event. AHCNM hosts “Biz Gratis,” an informal after-hours networking event. “Mercado” is an after-hours business exchange for networking.
My social media consulting firm, Drake Intelligence Group, is a member of The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. I hope to see you at one of the events!

A Peek at the UNM Campus
Just going through my computer photo albums today and found these two attractive photos of the UNM campus, taken back in July ’08. This just reminds me how relaxing the UNM campus is, whether you’re a student or an area resident.
